Home Tournament – Recap

January 28th and 29th had St. Mark’s school in Ottawa abuzz as 9 teams descended on the school to duke it out on the hardwood.

Saturday morning started with a strong Jazz game, taking CIVA de Montreal to the final buzzer. The Jazz and Phoenix alternated games throughout the day, taking on each of the other teams besides each other. Stay tuned for more information on the Jazz vs Phoenix showdowns, taking place in Russell on February 26th, 2012.

Sunday’s AAA games started off a bit rough for the Royals, who fell 62-47 to the Laval Glads Rouge. The second game vs the Quebec Bulldogs was closer, with the Royals using strategic fouls to try to stop the clock and close the gap.

The final game vs the Laval Glads Blanc was a back and forth contest from the get go, with the Royals leading at the end of the first quarter, and the Glads up by 3 at the half. The Royals turned on the offense in the 3rd quarter to take the lead, and the Glads were unable to catch up as the Royals matched them basket for basket. National Team player David Eng scored an astounding 64 points, but it was not enough to counter the Royals Triple Threat of Corey Smith, Marc Andre Chicoine and James Marshall, who had 45, 22 and 21 points respectively.

Congrats to all teams in the tournament! The Royals have 3 more games this season while the Jazz and Phoenix will play each other twice to round out their seasons before Conference Finals take place in Quebec City March 23rd, 24th and 25th.
